This event explored asexuality, including discrimination faced by asexual people.

We were kindly hosted by EIP, and the moderator was Triona Desmond (Legal Director at Pinsent Masons and member of the IP Out committee).

Venue:

The in-person event took place at the London office of EIP at Fairfax House, 15 Fulwood Place, London WC1V 6HU.

Our speaker:

Sarah Cosgriff

Sarah Cosgriff (she/they) is an asexual activist working in science communication and education. She raises awareness of asexual experiences through social media campaigns and engaging talks and co-founded Aces in STEM, an internationally reaching online space for individuals on the asexual-spectrum who work or study STEM subjects. They also produce and present on the podcast Queer Cuz which highlights the experiences of LGBTQ+ Filipinos.

Sarah’s work was recognised by the National Diversity Awards in 2022 by being shortlisted for the Positive Role Model Award – LGBT.

Content warning

This event included descriptions of discrimination towards asexual people, including within medical settings, and experiences of racism. Conversion therapy was mentioned but not described in depth.
