IP Inclusive have been working with the social mobility and outreach charity In2scienceUK for several years now and we’ve been delighted to see them partner with so many IP sector employers. In this guest post, In2scienceUK describe their impact in 2025 and provide details of how you or your organisation can get involved in 2026:

 

Who is In2scienceUK?

Established in 2010, In2scienceUK is an award-winning national social mobility charity dedicated to helping thousands of young people from low socioeconomic backgrounds and underrepresented groups access and succeed in education and careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Many young people from these groups face systemic barriers, such as limited access to STEM experiences, relevant careers information or relatable role models. In2scienceUK empowers young people to overcome these barriers and opens the door to better-paid STEM careers.

 

In2scienceUK’s impact

Our success is driven by programmes designed to target young people at crucial decision-making points in their lives. These offer unique STEM experiences, from bespoke in-person placements and interactive skills and employability workshops to inspiring away days, mentoring and ongoing alumni support.

In 2025, In2scienceUK supported 1,377 young people across the UK, delivering 51,839 hours of placement experience through its programmes with the support of more than 900 volunteers. Alongside this, our In2STEM programme aimed at students in Year 12 and S5/S6 ran 38 online workshops led by 109 workshop leaders, featuring mock lectures, application guidance and career panels. Our In2research programme, which focuses on widening access to postgraduate research, also provided 461 hours of mentorship delivered by 104 volunteer mentors.

By exposing young people to these once-in-a-lifetime experiences, In2scienceUK helps them build confidence in their abilities, deepen their understanding of STEM career pathways and acquire valuable new skills needed to achieve their STEM career aspirations.

 

How can you support In2scienceUK?

As a charity, we are committed to ensuring that all young people can access our initiatives, regardless of background. To make this possible, we rely on external funding from our fantastic supporters. Depending on your capacity, you can support the next generation of STEM by donating to In2scienceUK or fundraising on our behalf. For those seeking a deeper partnership, organisations can work with us to strategically deliver high-impact initiatives at scale.

Volunteer to create tangible change for young people:

Volunteer applications for the In2STEM programme are now open. Running from 20 July to 21 August 2026, the programme offers a blend of online and in-person activities to young people in Year 12 and S5/6, including an in-person STEM placement, online skills and employability workshops as well as public engagement competitions. If you work in STEM and have a passion for widening participation in your field, apply to be a Placement Host or Workshop Speaker today! You can also join one of our free online information sessions to learn more.

You can also volunteer for our 2026/2027 In2research programme, which offers two away days, four online skills-building workshops, four mentoring sessions with a subject specific mentor and a full-time, eight-week summer placement. Although applications are not yet open, if you are a researcher and want to support our mission to improve access to research, you can express interest in volunteering as an In2research Placement Host and/or Mentor.
