An IP Inclusive and Jonathan’s Voice webinar
Wednesday 14 May 2025
11.00 am – 12.00 pm, online
How best to support the men in your team?
Attendees joined IP Inclusive and Jonathan’s Voice for an early lunchtime webinar on 14 May 2025, where we were joined by Alex Elton-Wall and Gareth Collins – co-chairs of the UK-IPO’s Men’s Network.
Alex and Gareth kindly agreed to join us to share their experiences of joining, leading and growing the UK-IPO’s Men’s Network – a group with the aim of “Helping IPO men to be the best men they can be at work, for their family and friends and for themselves.”
We heard about what types of engagement and topics seem to resonate with their male colleagues at the IPO – and get them talking – on the subject of wellbeing. We also heard about how the impact of these initiatives often extend within an organisation far beyond those who actively participate – “This campaign might just have saved someone’s life.”
You can see a recording of the session below and read a report of the event here.
Meet the Speakers
Alex Elton-Wall
Alex has been a civil servant for 27 years. Like Gareth, his civil service career started at the Office for National Statistics, before he moved to the Intellectual Property Office in 2020. Alex is a communications professional, currently leading internal communications for a major IPO transformation programme. Alex has been involved in the IPO Men’s Network for nearly two years now, and recently joined Gareth as co-chair of the steering group. Alex is really keen for the IPO Men’s Network to grow and increase engagement with more men across the organisation.
Gareth Collins
Gareth has dedicated 18 years to the civil service, beginning his career at the Office for National Statistics before transitioning to the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in 2015. Currently, he leads the IPO’s Continuous Improvement Team, where he focuses on enhancing employee engagement, boosting customer satisfaction, and driving operational efficiency. In 2023, Gareth unexpectedly joined the IPO Men’s Network and swiftly rose to the position of co-chair of the steering group. He is passionate about helping others and making a difference through his work with the Men’s Network.
Who was it for?
We especially encouraged men and individuals who identify as men to attend, but the webinar was open to IP professionals of all genders. We don’t mind where you work, what role you play there or what career level you’re at. This is an important topic, which touches many and matters to all of us.
Bring a guest!
At IP Inclusive we want to reach as many IP people as possible. Why not invite a guest to watch one of our webinars with you – someone in a different role or at a different career level, perhaps; an ally or potential ally; or a colleague who’s not yet involved with IP Inclusive? They’ll be most welcome!
