IP Out present
Catch up with DJ Ritu, MBE
Thursday 1 May 2025
12.30 – 1.30 pm, online
Triona Desmond, from IP OUT will be catching up with the infamous DJ Ritu, an international turntablist and former BBC Radio presenter. Ritu has toured in over 35 countries, performing at major festivals/venues such as Glastonbury, Boiler Room, Jazz Café, Boxpark, Ministry of Sound, WOMAD, and Roskilde. Her radio program residencies range from BBC London, Kiss 100, World Service, National Swedish Radio, and her current show ‘A World In London’ (at Mixcloud and Resonance 104.4FM)- an essential platform for global majority artists. In the ’90s, she co-founded Outcaste Records, signing acts like Nitin Sawhney and Badmarsh & Shri. In 2023 Ritu was awarded an MBE for services to music and broadcasting. We look back at her life as a DJ, where it all began, what it was like being female, Asian and gay in the music industry, how she progressed in her career, and her plans for the future.
