Many LGB people find themselves going back in the closet when they make the transition from university to the workplace, and this can have seriously detrimental effects on their mental health. However, being out at work can also have consequences. Lack of acceptance in the workplace can contribute to mental health issues for trans* people as well.
At this event we were pleased to welcome Marco Pilia, a BACP qualified integrative psychotherapist and volunteer for London Friend, to discuss his knowledge and experience of mental health issues in LGBT+ people. Tobias Hawksley-Beesley, an associate at Bird & Bird and IP Out committee member, also talked about his experiences both in and out of the closet at work.
The event was very kindly hosted by Kilburn & Strode.
You can read more about the event here; our report includes a downloadable presentation on mental health issues for LGBT+ people.
