Welcome to the IP & ME Coffee Club – July edition!
IP & ME and friends met up at another of their “Coffee Club” get-togethers on Tuesday 11th July at 9:30 am. We kick-started the day with a light, informal chat over a cuppa.
The discussion theme
This time our visitors addressed the question: “What, if any, impact has your background and culture had on your career or career choices?” Some said it had helped them when working with clients from similar backgrounds or who spoke the same language. Others told how their careers had been influenced by perceptions of “respectable” or stable career paths among their parents or wider communities. The discussions also extended to the challenges of proving yourself to be competitive in a largely white space.
Who was it for?
These informal get-togethers are for IP & ME supporters and would-be supporters. They’re open to people from minority ethnic backgrounds and allies as well. Whatever your role and career level, if you work in the UK’s IP sector we’d love you to join us at the next one!
Feel free to invite a friend or colleague to come along with you – perhaps someone who’s not yet involved with IP & ME? They’ll be most welcome!
We’ll be organising coffee dates at various times and locations, depending on who’s around. Sometimes they’ll have a theme to kick-start the conversations, but there will be plenty of opportunities for a general chat and networking too. It’s a wonderful safe space to connect and build career-long relationships.
Cost
This event was free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive on the right side of the paywall.
