IP Out, Remote access meeting

The latest in the IP Out event series was brought to you in conjunction with Rachel Reeseย andย Emma Cusdinย ofย Global Butterflies.

In this session, we explored the global trans and non-binary space, including the relationship with other equality characteristics. Topics included statistics, terminology, tips for employers, allyship, questions and subjects to avoid when speaking to a trans or non-binary person, and an example of a transition journey.

Our aim was to help delegates gain a good understanding of gender identity and expression, have an appreciation of what it means to be trans or non-binary, improve confidence to move forward with workplace adjustment and planning, including staff training, and recognise how to interact respectfully with the trans and non-binary community. There was also a lively Q&A.

We strongly encouraged people to bring someone to this event that had never been to an IP Out event before. It was a fantastic learning opportunity.

In lieu of payment, the team at Global Butterflies agreed to IP Out making a donation to GiveOut, an award-winning charity supporting the global struggle for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) human rights. GiveOut enables individuals and businesses to give in one place to support LGBTQI activism worldwide. They pool donations to provide grants to LGBTQI organisations around the world, ensuring that they have more of the resources they need to defend their communities and campaign for equality. If you would like to make a donation to GiveOut, please do so. You can donate here. And thank you to the team at Global Butterflies for their generosity!

Thanks also to Kilburn & Strode LLP for hosting this event.
