IP & ME May coffee club: Why is EDI still important?

Tuesday 28 May 2024

9:30 – 10:00 am online

This month, IP & ME touched upon why equality/equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) should still remain a hot topic for everyone. Have you ever scoped out an employer by sifting through their ‘our people’ section or checked out their ED&I initiatives before you applied? How many times has there been a disconnect between their online presence and insider knowledge? Do you identify with a role model within the profession? If not, is that an issue? The more we can discuss as a community, the more experiences come to light on why ED&I should still be important. We wanted everyone to have a hard think about why EDI is important to them, and encouraged a debate on whether they think it is important at all. By finding a purpose and passion for ED&I, we can work collectively to ensure it remains at the forefront of everyone’s minds, and is not just a box-ticking exercise.

The discussions yielded loads of thought-provoking ideas and useful suggestions for individuals and companies who want to keep the ED&I agenda moving. Have a read of IP & ME’s report on their LinkedIn page – and why not follow them, so you can keep up to date with their other activities?

Who was it for?

These informal virtual get-togethers are for anyone, especially IP & ME supporters. The coffee clubs are open to people from minority and ethnic backgrounds and allies. Whatever your role and career level, if you work near or with the IP sector, you were welcome!

We’ll be organising these coffee clubs every couple of months. They’ll have a theme to kick-start conversations, but there will be plenty of opportunities for general chit-chat and networking too. It’s a wonderful safe space to connect and build career-long relationships.

Cost

This event was free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive on the right side of the paywall.

That said, we do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoyed the event, please consider contributing to our 2023-24 fundraising campaign. For more information – including about corporate donations – visit our fundraising page.
