South Asian Heritage Month: An in-person Book Club event
Thursday 8 August 2024
5.30 – 7.30 pm
IP & ME were thrilled to invite their supporters to an in-person “book club” event in both London and Birmingham on Thursday 8 August to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month and this year’s theme: “Free to be me”.
Attendees grabbed a copy of Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens, Shankari Chandran (2022) and got reading! Then they discussed the novel over a selection of South Asian nibbles and drinks.
What appears to be a cosy read about residents at a nursing home in Sydney, Australia, soon presents itself as a retelling of the residents’ colourful histories and the trauma they experienced, with the storyline switching between modern day Australia and the Sri Lankan civil war.
Thank you to Forresters for kindly hosting this event in their offices in London and Birmingham, and sponsoring the refreshments.

Who was it for?
These informal get-togethers are for anyone, especially IP & ME supporters and allies. Whatever your role and career level, if you work near or with the IP sector, we would love for you to join us!
Feel free to invite friends and colleagues to come along with you – perhaps even someone who is not yet involved with IP Inclusive? Everyone is most welcome.
Cost
This event was free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive on the right side of the paywall.
That said, we do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoyed the event, please consider contributing to our 2024-25 fundraising campaign. For more information – including about corporate donations – visit our fundraising page.
