Uniting perspectives: embracing religious diversity in the profession

This webinar aims to promote understanding of different religions and how we can all, as individuals or firms, better support religious diversity in the workplace. CITMA have kindly opened the event, free of charge, to all IP Inclusive supporters.

You’ll learn about four different religions, including Christianity, Islam, Jainism, and Judaism. You’ll also have the chance to ask any questions, with a varied panel of speakers on hand to offer insight into their personal experiences with each religion.

Diving into some of the common misconceptions, there will be a particular focus on faith in the workplace and topics such as recruitment, accessibility, and inclusion.

We will also consider:

  • How firms can educate staff about different religions to foster understanding
  • The unique challenges people from different religions face in the workplace
  • Steps firms can take to attract and retain talent from diverse religious backgrounds

  • Increase understanding of different religions and how we can develop a more inclusive culture
  • Learn how to address challenges faced in the workplace to improve accessibility and progression for all in the legal sector

Meet your speakers

Triona Desmond, Pinsent Masons

Triona is a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney and Legal Director at Pinsent Masons LLP. She manages extremely large trade mark portfolios and deals with a high volume of contentious matters. She also enjoys pro-bono work.

She has in-house experience, seconded as Head of IP for a global clothing and household brand.

In addition, Triona is very active in the D&I sector, speaking on LGBT+ issues at conferences, webinars, schools and events. She is also a CITMA Council member and chairs CITMA’s D&I working group. Furthermore, she is also a member of IP Out and of CITMA’s Education, Qualification and Standards and Paralegal Committees.

 

Amani Islam, Hogan Lovells International LLP

Amani is a Senior Paralegal at Hogan Lovells International LLP, where she heads up the team of paralegals managing the prosecution side of the trade marks and designs practice.

Amani manages global trade mark and design portfolios for a variety of clients across a broad range of business sectors and works on various IP disputes. Amani is passionate about IP and, in particular, her clients’ brands. She focuses on growth and improvement to better support her clients in their quest to protect their brands.

Amani has significant experience in the trade marks field, and is a member of various committees and working groups with the aim of helping to improve opportunities and events for IP practitioners.

 

Daniel March, Forresters

Daniel is an enthusiastic trade mark attorney with over 20 years of experience. His clients appreciate his practical solutions and clear commercial advice. After training at leading international law firms, he qualified as a Registered European Trade Mark Attorney in 2013.

He advises on all aspects of trade mark registration, protection and enforcement in the UK, Europe and internationally. This includes clearance searches, oppositions, invalidity and revocation actions and other transactions involving IP. He has regular interaction with representatives and examiners from the UK IPO and WIPO as well as with Forresters’ global network of overseas attorneys.

 

 

Misha Mehta, Pinsent Masons

Misha is a Trade Mark Paralegal at Pinsent Masons, with over two years of experience at the firm. She is a qualified American Bar Associate (ABA) Paralegal and has previously worked in the USA as a Trade Mark Admin and Paralegal for three years. Currently, Misha is pursuing her CITMA Paralegal qualification in the UK.

Outside of her professional life, Misha loves spending time with her two-year-old daughter. She is also an active volunteer at the London Spiritual Centre in Bushey, where she participates in various charitable activities. As a practising Jain, Misha is passionate about raising awareness of Jainism in both personal and professional settings.

 

Hanna Tiyamiyu, HGF

Hanna is a Trade Mark Attorney at HGF Limited with over five years of in-depth experience providing specialist services across the full spectrum of trade marks, copyright and designs.

She is also skilled in advisory and contentious work pertaining to online enforcement matters, including social media take-downs, infringement disputes on e-commerce platforms, domain name disputes and company name complaints. She is a member of the HGF Retail Team, having particular experience acting for and advising retailers.
