A toolkit created by our IP Out community to help organisations and their staff provide a more inclusive workplace for transgender and non-binary colleagues and for people considering changing their gender expression.
The toolkit provides: a list of steps an organisation can take to be more trans and non-binary inclusive; a roadmap of steps to take to reflect a team memberβs transition or change of gender expression; a template trans and non-binary inclusion policy; a template guide for managers for when someone they manage tells them they are transitioning, or thinking about transitioning or changing their gender expression; and a glossary of some common terms relating to trans and non-binary gender identities.
This is an updated version following review by IP Out in light of the 16 April 2025 Supreme Court decision inΒ For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers. We would like to emphasise that this toolkit does not contain, or constitute, legal advice. It is there to help people who want to demonstrate positive allyship towards trans and non-binary professionals in the workplace. Employers should always seek independent professional advice on their HR policies, taking account of the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant laws.
Our thanks to Global Butterflies for their input into, and guidance on, this project.
