IP Out x Proud Science Alliance:
Understanding the EHRC Code of Practice:
What the Supreme Court ruling means for your workplace
with Robin White, Barrister, Old Square Chambers
Robin White is back by popular demand! This event will be an examination of the UK Supreme Court (UKSC) ruling in For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers, and the updates made to the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) statutory Code of Practice. This session is designed to give individuals, leaders and organisations a clearer understanding of the ruling’s impact, and practical guidance on how to remain inclusive of transgender people.
Robin White brings a wealth of experience in employment law, with particular expertise in discrimination and HR advisory matters. In this session, she will discuss the impact on the EHRC statutory Code of Practice following the UKSC’s decision on the term “woman” in the context of the UK Equality Act 2010. The session will consider the effects on the rights and day-to-day experiences of trans and non-binary individuals, as well as non-gender-conforming cis (non-trans) people.

She represents both employers and employees across UK employment tribunals, the Employment Appeal Tribunal, the Court of Appeal and the High Court, including cases in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Robin acted in Taylor v Jaguar Land Rover, a landmark case establishing protections for gender-fluid and non-binary employees, and is co-author of A Practical Guide to Transgender Law (2021). She won “Outstanding Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion” at the Chambers UK Bar Awards in 2022, and is consistently ranked in the leading legal directories, with Legal 500 describing her as “tenacious,” with a “wealth of experience,” and Chambers & Partners praising her “really serious appreciation of complexity” and “pragmatic and commercially sensible” advice.
