Mental health, Remote access meeting

A free webinar from IP Inclusive and the IPO

Thursday 2 December 2021
12 – 1 pm

Euros Morris from the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and the IP Inclusive mental health first aiders’ network joined us to talk about the role of the mental health first aider (MHFAer) and how they and their colleagues can support one another without the role becoming a burden. The event was designed for trained MHFAers and those considering undertaking the MHFA training.

Euros shared his experience of being a MHFAer at the IPO, and explored:

  • How the MHFA role has developed since inception
  • What has (and hasn’t) worked
  • How MHFAers are being promoted
  • Issues regarding blurred colleague/MHFAer boundaries
  • Balancing MHFA with core duties
  • Following up on MHFAer interventions

along with many other useful hints and tips.

This was an interactive session, to allow IP sector MHFAers to inspire and learn from one another, so there was also a chance to discuss the issues with other MHFAers from the IP Inclusive network following Euros’s talk.

The discussions were chaired by Jen Unsworth (HGF), also from our MHFAers’ network.

Follow-up resources

Because of the sensitive nature of the topics, we did not record this event. However, the chair Jen Unsworth has kindly provided a summary of the discussion points, along with some sources of help, which you can access via our MHFAer’s LinkedIn group here (click here to apply to join that group).

If you’re a MHFAer, or planning to be one, and would like an invitation to join the IP Inclusive support network, please email us at [email protected]. Similarly, if you have an idea for another event for MHFAers, please let us know.

Cost

This event was free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive the right side of the paywall.

That said, we do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoyed the event please consider contributing to our 2021-22 fundraising campaign. For individual ad hoc donations, our crowdfunding page is here. Or for more information – including for corporate sponsors – visit our general fundraising page here.
