What is unconscious bias?

Why does it happen?

Where and how can it impact on our workplace decisions?

And how can we reduce it?

In this webinar, presented by IP Inclusive Lead Executive Officer Andrea Brewster OBE, we explored the basics about unconscious bias and stereotypes, and practical tips to stop them compromising the work we do and the relationships we build there. We learned that biases, assumptions and stereotypes are a natural part of our brain’s way of making sense of the world, so that rather than being judgemental about them, we can concentrate on awareness and mitigation. We also looked at ways of turning unconscious biases to our advantage in the fight for better diversity and inclusivity.

This event was supported and hosted by CIPA, but was free for all IP Inclusive supporters. You can access a recording of it here.

Live viewing in Birmingham

We also had a live viewing in Birmingham, kindly hosted by Mills & Reeve at their offices at 78-84 Colmore Row, Birmingham B3 2AB: a chance for members of the Midlands IP community to watch and discuss together. Photos below (with thanks to Mills & Reeve for capturing the occasion, and to the owners of all the happy faces there!).
