A free webinar from IP Inclusive and Jonathan’s Voice
to mark International Men’s Day in the UK

Thursday 17 November 2022
4.30 – 5.30 pm

Attendees joined us for an IP Inclusive and Jonathan’s Voice event to mark International Men’s Day in the UK, which took place on 19 November.

In the UK, suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50. Despite this representing a major public health crisis, research into male suicide is surprisingly lacking. Jonathan’s Voice is part-funding research into male suicide at the University of Glasgow Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory under the direction of Professor Rory O’Connor. Susie Bennett is the researcher on the project. In this webinar, Susie gave an overview of her research and why she believes it is so important, what the outcomes are so far and how these might be translated into supporting men in practical and accessible ways.

Susie is an extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and inspiring speaker, who shared aspects of her work with us in our 2021 webinar “Not just for Movember…”. This session provided opportunities to ask questions and was forward looking – what we all can learn about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of men.

You can find more about Susie’s research at https://jonathansvoice.org.uk/research-we-fund.

Who was it for?

This event was for all UK-based IP professionals who are interested in mental wellbeing. It doesn’t matter where you work, what role you play there or what career level you’re at. This is an important topic, which touches many and matters to all of us.

Follow-up resources

A recording of the first part of the event (Graham McCartney’s talk and the discussion between Susie Bennett and Mark Fudge) is available here.

Cost

This event was free. So are all our resources. The Jonathan’s Voice events and resources are also free at the point of delivery.

That said, both organisations do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoyed the event please consider contributing. For more information, visit the IP Inclusive fundraising page or the Jonathan’s Voice donations page.
