*** Hybrid event ***
Panel discussion and in-person networking
with Women in IP and their allies

Tuesday 11 October 2022
5 for 5.30 pm

Following the huge success of the Women in IP and allies annual event in June, we were very excited that Gowling WLG hosted an in-person follow-up event with us on Tuesday 11 October 2022.

The background

At the June event, which was held virtually due to train strikes, our panellists discussed the theme “Mind the Gap!” – inspired by Mary Ann Sieghart’s book The Authority Gap: Why women are still taken less seriously than men, and what we can do about it. The theme really seemed to resonate with a lot of people, and there was still so much more to discuss.

This follow-up event dived deeper into some of the concepts discussed at the first event, with our amazing panellists returning to provide some more top tips for what we can do to narrow the authority gap. Plus, this time, the event was in-person, and so following the panel discussion, we continued the discussion, network and catch up with our IP colleagues over a drink or two.

Some of the main themes and discussion points from the first event can be found in this blog post.  Notes and a recording from this event will be made available shortly.

Meet the panel

As in June, the panel discussion was moderated by Kate Swaine, Co-Head of IP at Gowling WLG. We were delighted to welcome back the same panellists as in June:

  • Anna Elagina – Finance Director at Boult Wade Tennant
  • Gordon Harris – International IP Leadership at Gowling WLG
  • Sadia Salam – Executive Coach, Inclusion Facilitator, Speaker & Recovering Lawyer of 20 years (sadly, Sadia was unable to join us in the end due to unforeseen circumstances)
  • James St Ville KC – 8 New Square

There was also an opportunity for Q&As with the audience.

Follow-up resources

IP Inclusive intern Susan Nelson has written a great blog post about this event, highlighting the key outcomes and collecting together the many practical tips that emerged from the panel discussion. You can read it here.

The recording is available here.

This event was free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive on the right side of the paywall.

That said, we do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoyed the event please consider contributing to our 2022-23 fundraising campaign. For more information – including about corporate donations – visit our fundraising page.
