An informal online discussion
with Women in IP
Thursday 5 May 2022
12.30 – 1.15 pm
As a precursor to our 2022 annual event, Women in IP are delighted to invite you to a book club-style coffee date.
The book we will be discussing is The Authority Gap by Mary Ann Sieghart.
As usual, all genders are welcome – this is a topic that’s of huge importance to allies. You don’t necessarily have to have read the book beforehand, although it will almost certainly increase your passion for the cause if you do!
The annual event itself will be held in the late afternoon of Tuesday 21 June (exact time TBC). Please save the date and keep an eye on our events page for more details soon.
Our discussion questions
Even if you’ve not yet managed to read the book, we’re sure you will still get lots from the discussions around it, and have plenty to contribute too (you will most likely also be inspired to then go and read it).
We’ve been lucky enough that the author, Mary Ann Sieghart, has shared a couple of discussion points with us that she thinks are important:
- How can we stop mistaking confidence for competence?
- Is it women who need fixing or the way we perceive, react to and interact with women?
Another discussion point, especially given articles that have been in the news recently, is:
- What can men and women do to stop women’s authority being undermined?
We’re so looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these!
If you’d like to attend this event, please register using the Eventbrite link above (top right).
Please also let us know if you have any special accessibility requirements. We’ll do what we can to help.
This event is free. So are all our resources. We think it’s important to keep IP Inclusive on the right side of the paywall.
That said, we do need money to keep the show on the road, so if you enjoy the event please consider contributing to our 2021-22 fundraising campaign. For more information – including about corporate donations – visit our fundraising page.
