Introducing our Allyship Guidelines — a valuable tool created with input from each of the IP Inclusive communities to encourage and empower allies throughout the IP professions.

This key objective has underpinned all our work in 2024, in line with our 2023-25 business plan.

The Guidelines can be found in the Resources section of our website or downloaded here.

Tell me more…

The Guidelines have been produced with leaders in mind, but are relevant to everyone. They are a comprehensive resource designed to provide essential insights into allyship and foster meaningful discussions.

They include real-life examples showing what allyship means to our communities. These powerfully illustrate the impact allyship can have and how much it’s valued. They also include checklists, information and resources to help allies support our communities.

On top of that, they contain ideas and suggestions for creating change within your organisation and so are especially relevant to leaders, managers and those in more senior roles, to help them embrace their role as allies, champion diversity, and drive lasting change.

Anything else?

The Guidelines also include a Checklists and Resources document which provides additional suggestions and goes into greater depth. Some of these are particularly relevant to senior leaders when considering organisational policies and culture and others are relevant to everyone.

  • Supporting Colleagues
  • Workplace Culture
  • Workplace Policies
  • External Accreditation Schemes
  • Awareness and Celebration Occasions
  • Sources of Additional Information

How can I use them?

Use the Allyship Guidelines:

  • As a reference resource.
  • To start / inform / inspire discussions.
  • To help shape policies and/or plan activities.
  • To help set targets and chart progress.
  • As part of a training programme.

We invite you to explore the *Allyship Guidelines*, spark important conversations within your teams, and reflect on how you can make a real impact in creating a more inclusive workplace.

Please share them with your colleagues and make them available to all staff on your company intranet.

Accessibility

The Allyship Guidelines are available as a PowerPoint presentation, including features such as Alt-text and reading order to make it accessible to people using screen readers. We have also produced a small file size, black and white version, with plain text, which may be preferred by some people. This version will be easier to access on old devices or in areas with poor connectivity and is intended to facilitate wider accessibility. Cutting down on digital traffic is also good for the environment.

The Checklists and Resources document is provided as a separate Word document.

A living document

We intend the Guidelines to be a ‘living document’ so that we will be able to incorporate changes as required in the future, particularly in response to users’ feedback. So please do get in touch with your feedback as you start to make use of the Guidelines.

Thanks

We’re grateful to our communities for their valuable input and feedback which has directed this project:
