IP Inclusive is pleased to support a new Inclusive and Healthy Management & Leadership Development Programme, delivered by our long‑standing training partners Focal Point Training and Consultancy. This practical, people‑centred programme has been designed specifically for managers working in the legal and IP sectors, and responds directly to concerns raised in our communities about the need for better management development.

The initiative is particularly championed by our Women in IP community, following their 2025 Career Guidance survey. The survey highlighted a clear gap in accessible, high‑quality management and leadership training for people working across the IP professions. Many respondents reported stepping into managerial roles without the preparation, confidence or support they needed. This new programme aims to help close that gap.

Although supported by Women in IP, the programme is open to all genders, roles and career stages. It’s ideal for anyone wanting to lead more confidently and inclusively, including first-time managers, those developing or wanting to develop their careers, and of course both those in IP Business Services and those in technical or legal roles.

About the programme

The Inclusive and Healthy Management & Leadership Development Programme focuses on the practical skills that underpin inclusive, psychologically safe and wellbeing‑centred management. Participants will learn how to:

  • Create supportive, open working environments
  • Actively manage workloads in a fair and balanced way
  • Support wellbeing at work
  • Build a culture of constructive feedback
  • Develop and empower their people
  • Hold meaningful one‑to‑ones

The programme is delivered virtually via Zoom, making it accessible from any location. Groups are capped at 10 participants to ensure inclusive discussion and a safe space for shared learning. The structure includes:

  • A 3‑hour launch workshop
  • Six focused 90‑minute sessions
  • Time between sessions to implement actions and reflect on progress
  • A self‑awareness profile for each participant
  • An individual development plan to embed learning

Focal Point Training and Consultancy have been trusted partners of IP Inclusive for many years and have delivered impactful training for numerous organisations across the IP sector. Their approach blends practical tools, relatable facilitation and action‑focused outcomes, supported by external accreditation from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and the Institute of Leadership (IoL).

Why this matters

Healthy, inclusive management is central to building workplaces where people feel valued, supported and able to thrive. As the LawCare Life in the Law survey noted, “Legal workplaces should give people managers enough time, targeted training and ongoing support and recognise management as a critical skill.” Yet only 54.6% of respondents with managerial responsibilities had received any training to support them in managing people.

By equipping managers with the skills and confidence they need, this programme aims to improve retention, reduce burnout, strengthen psychological safety and enhance job satisfaction across teams.
