IP Out is the IP Inclusive Community for LGBTQAI+ people and their allies working in the IP professions. We provide support and networking opportunities, and typically aim to organise around four events each year. The events, which are open for all to attend, are a mixture of talks and panel discussions as well as more informal social events.
To be kept informed of community news and upcoming events, we highly recommend you sign up to the IP Out mailing list.Β We promise not to spam you, and being on the mailing list will allow you to receive updates about IP Out activities and the support we need to continue them, and also about issues and resources relevant to equality, diversity and inclusion in the IP professions. It’s a great way of staying involved and ensuring you don’t miss out on important news and events.Β You can also keep up to date by joiningΒ our LinkedIn group.
The IP Out Community is run by a small volunteer committee. If you would be interested in being part of the committee or taking more of an active role in the community, please email us.Β We would love to hear from you, whether with questions, offers of help or suggestions for future activities. You can find the details of our current committee members towards the bottom of this page.
Committee Co-Chairs: Isobel Barry and Kevin Rich
Committee Co-Secretaries: Georgie Hart and Tom Leonard

A toolkit created by ourΒ IP Out communityΒ to help organisations and their staff provide a more inclusive workplace for transgender and non-binary colleagues and for people considering changing their gender expression.
The toolkit provides: aΒ list of steps an organisation can takeΒ to be more trans and non-binary inclusive; aΒ roadmapΒ of steps to take to reflect a team memberβs transition or change of gender expression; aΒ template trans and non-binary inclusion policy; aΒ template guide for managersΒ for when someone they manage tells them they are transitioning, or thinking about transitioning or changing their gender expression; and aΒ glossaryΒ of some common terms relating to trans and non-binary gender identities.
Please note that IP Out are currently reviewing the toolkit in light of the 16 April 2025 Supreme Court decision inΒ For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers.Β If appropriate we will publish an updated version soon.Β
Our thanks toΒ Global ButterfliesΒ for their input into, and guidance on, the toolkit.
